Settings & Calibration ~ Moon Phase Clocks

Operating and Adjustment Manual for Your Moon Clock

Our moon clocks are designed to provide accurate tracking of the lunar cycles. Here is everything you need to know to set them up and get the most out of them in your daily life.

Setting your Moon Clock

Inserting the Battery

Gently turn the clock over to access the mechanism. Insert a 1.5V AA non-rechargeable battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Never use more powerful batteries, as a voltage exceeding 1.5V could permanently damage your clock’s components.

Identify Moon Phase

Before setting, consult a lunar calendar, a mobile app, or a specialized website. It is essential to accurately determine whether the moon is new, waxing, full, or waning. This step is vital to correctly synchronize the hand with the current date.

Setting the Precision Hand

Once identified, locate the adjustment knob on the back of the clock. Gently turn it until the hand points exactly to the illustration matching the current moon phase. This simple step only takes a few seconds.

Follow the Cycle

After the initial setting, your clock is ready to operate. It faithfully reproduces the average lunar cycle, which lasts approximately 29.5 days (the synodic period). You can now hang it in your chosen location and let it evolve naturally; the mechanism functions autonomously and requires no further daily intervention or manual adjustments.

Adjustments to Keep in Mind

Over time, a slight discrepancy may occur between your clock's display and the actual moon. This is perfectly normal, as the mechanism is based on an average lunar cycle. After two or three years, the difference may reach approximately one day. Simply reposition the hand to restore perfect accuracy. If you use your clock for gardening, fishing, or any other activity linked to moon phases, an annual check-up is recommended.

Why a Moon Clock?

A moon clock is more than just a decorative object; it is an instrument that reconnects you with natural rhythms. In your daily life, it invites you to look up and disconnect from screens to rediscover a more direct relationship with time. It also supports traditional practices such as gardening and fishing, as well as wellness activities that follow the moon's phases.

Understanding the Lunar Phases

The Moon orbits the Earth, taking approximately 29.5 days to complete a full revolution around our planet. Sunlight illuminates the Moon as it rotates, and depending on the positions of the Sun, Earth, and Moon, we observe it in different shapes each night.

New Moon

The Moon is between the Earth and the Sun; its dark side faces us, making it invisible.

Waxing Crescent

A small sliver of the right side becomes visible as the Moon begins to "grow."

First Quarter

Exactly half of the right side of the Moon is illuminated and visible from Earth.

Waxing Gibbous

More than half of the Moon is lit, and the illuminated area continues to expand.

Full Moon

The Earth is between the Moon and the Sun, revealing the Moon's fully illuminated face.

Waning Gibbous

The illuminated portion begins to shrink; the Moon is now "waning."

Last Quarter

The left half of the Moon is visible as it continues its journey back to darkness.

Waning Crescent

A final sliver remains on the left side before the cycle starts again with a New Moon.
